Along with competing in barbecue competitions, Jason and I sometimes cater. One of the things I enjoy about catering is that we’re not competing or trying to impress judges, we’re feeding regular people. And I love to see people’s reactions to out food when they try it for the first time. For example: Thursday night we worked a big corporate event where there were a number of food stations. Some people who tried our sandwiches said it was the best pulled pork they’d ever eaten. One guy though, I watched him eat with a look of bliss on his face, grinning through every bite. Finally he asked me, “Where’s your restaurant?” I answered, “We don’t have one.” He responded, “Okay, where’s your food truck?” I responded, “We don’t have one.” I felt genuinely disappointed that the best we could offer was, “Our pulled pork is served at the Depanneur on Thursdays” (what if it’s not convenient to him?) and “We cater.”
I had Jason give him a business card so that he could follow us on Facebook and check Jason’s blog. After he walked away I realized that we forgot to tell him about this event – which, of course, I was going to blog about anyway, and the likelihood of him seeing this is slim:
