The Digestion Sessions preview: Pineapple to Punch Up Wellness

The Digestion Sessions begins in just over a week!

Sean Croxton of Underground Wellness Radio is hosting this free online event November 9-23.

Dr. Jillian Sarno Teta, one of the Digestion Sessions presenters, created some infographics as part of a “12 days of Digestive Health” series, giving permission for reuse.

#5 is pineapple

Pineapple earns its place in this campaign of gut superheroes by its ability to stoke and stimulate digestive fire.

If you follow this page or have read my book, you’ll know that I use the term “digestive fire” to explain the body’s ability to make adequate digestive enzymes, acid and bile to biochemically break down proteins, fats and carbohydrates into their constituent building blocks of amino acids, fatty acids and sugars. If you can’t break down your food, not only will it make you bloated and gassy, but you won’t be able to ABSORB it, either.

Enter pineapple, which not only helps fire up production and release of enzymes, but contains a rather famous enzyme: bromelain.

Bromelain is anti-inflammatory and also, in addition to breaking up proteins, helps chew up and dissolve excess mucous.

Pineapple is also rich in Vitamin C (the color gives this fact away) which is used by the body in collagen and soft tissue production, helping to build up the integrity of the small intestine.

Pineapple also has gentle, easy fiber for your beneficial bacteria to feast on and produce SCFAs (short chain fatty acids) which are also anti-inflammatory and are used by the body as quick energy, and never stored as fat.

Those who register from this page for the Digestion Sessions will be privy not only to the lectures/interviews and demos of 25 digestive experts (um, for free!), but I am giving you a “goodie” too – I will send you a little booklet with recipes featuring the twelve Digestive SuperHeroes.

Today’s recipe? Pineapple Surprise

There’s not much I can add to that except piña colada?

P.S. As of November 1, I’m participating in A. Vogel’s Molkosan® Berry “21 days to a happier tummy” blogger program. The timing works pretty well.
